Elder John A. Widtsoe (1872–1952) of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles further described a seer as one who “perceives the meaning of that which seems obscure to others; therefore he is an interpreter and clarifier of eternal truth. He foresees the future from the past and the present. This he does by the power of the Lord operating through him directly, or indirectly with the aid of divine instruments such as the Urim and Thummim. In short, he is one who sees, who walks in the Lord’s light with open eyes” (Evidences and Reconciliations, arr. G. Homer Durham [1960], 258).
What is the significance of the name Ammon appearing in the Book of Mormon? (7:3)
Nephi wrote that he made a record "which consists of the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians" (1 Nephi 1:2). King Benjamin and Moroni also described an Egyptian influence in the Book of Mormon writings (see Mosiah 1:4; Mormon 9:32). Hugh Nibley explained that Ammon (or Amon)
"is the commonest proper name in the Book of Mormon, and also the commonest and most revered name in the Egyptian Empire" (Lehi in the Desert, 23).
Christ as our Father
Ether 3:14
Behold, I am he who was prepared from the foundation of the world to redeem my people. Behold, 1 am Jesus Christ. I am the Father and the Son. In me shall all mankind have life, and that eternally, even they who shall believe on my name; and they shall become my sons and my daughters.

Doctrine of Christ-- Faith
- Repentance
- Baptism
- Gift of the Holy Ghost
- Endure to the End
The Prophet Joseph Smith (1805–44) outlined the process by which one obtains this promise: “After a person has faith in Christ, repents of his sins, and is baptized for the remission of his sins and receives the Holy Ghost, (by the laying on of hands), … then let him continue to humble himself before God, hungering and thirsting after righteousness, and living by every word of God, and the Lord will soon say unto him, Son, thou shalt be exalted. When the Lord has thoroughly proved him, and finds that the man is determined to serve Him at all hazards, then the man will find his calling and his election made sure, then it will be his privilege to receive the other Comforter, which the Lord hath promised the Saints, as is recorded in the testimony of St. John” (History of the Church, 3:380).
Blessings & Adversity-Whenever anything spiritual in our lives takes place, there’s always that great chance that the adversary will counter it in someway:
- Joseph Smith being attacked by the adversary before God the father and his son Jesus Christ descended
- First Vision
2Nep 28:20
For behold, at that day shall he (Satan) rage in the hearts of the children of men, and stir them up to anger against that which is good.
"My intentions are to (in no particular order) understand what LDS actually believe, make friends with some very nice people, share my love of Christ, the Blessed Sacrament, and the Rosary with others, and to get some summer reading done. That's it."
My purpose with the blog post is to create a place where Trevor's previous X-Spaces can be easily revisited.
Also, it will be a source-page for relevant links to the the discussion on the Book of Mormon.
