On August 10, 2010, I started a new position with the Department of Public Safety/Utah Highway Patrol as the Public Information Officer (PIO). The previous evening, there was a tour bus that rolled over near Cedar City, Utah, killing three of the fourteen Japanese tourists. The next two days was spent taking almost non-stop phone calls from the media-- especially the Japanese media.
During the following next few weeks, there were fatal crashes happening almost every one to two days. Needless to say, I was thoroughly broken into my new job unlike anything that I had planned on.
